Real Madrid will host club rivals Atletico Madrid on Thursday for the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey. The home side booked their place in the round with a 3-2 win against Villarreal. Diego Simeone’s team are coming from two consecutive wins in the previous cup round against Levante (0-2), as well as the last La Liga game at home against Valladolid (3-0). Here’s what you need to know:

Atletico fans can only attend the match in their away zone, while fans that have regular tickets can’t wear Atletico’s colors. Also, there was a limited number of tickets available for the guests in what is the most anticipated showdown so far in the cup. Real Madrid issued an official statement regarding the topic, saying “Real Madrid has never refused entry to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium to fans wearing away team jerseys. This has always been the case, as we have seen in every match held in our stadium, and this will continue to be the case. Regarding the number of tickets that Real Madrid have made available to Atlético de Madrid for this upcoming match, our club would like to clarify that the number of tickets made available to Atlético de Madrid is the same number that Real Madrid receives when visiting the Metropolitano stadium, in accordance with the agreement reached by both clubs within the framework of the excellent relationship that we have with each other.”

Carlo Ancelotti, during the pre-match press conference, said some important words about the future of two key players. “Toni Kroos and Luka Modric understand very well their role and what I ask them. They know there’s a lot of quality inside this squad. It’s a moment of transition. I talked to them about this at the start of the season. They can play together, I am sure about that and I have no doubt they will still be important.” Both of them will be out of contract at the end of the current season.

After struggling for playing time and not staying all that fit with a current knee injury, Chelsea’s American talent Christian Pulisic could be on the move to AC Milan. Pulisic has played fewer than 800 minutes for Chelsea this season after not being allowed to leave the club after American Todd Boehly took ownership, but now Italy could offer a fresh start. Linked to Juventus and Newcastle United in prior windows, interest had seemingly cooled for Pulisic since his most recent injury which could see him miss up to two months for Chelsea.

But according to Marca, AC Milan are open to adding Pulisic with only 18 months remaining on his contract as Chelsea seem to add more attackers with each day that passes. After already adding Joao Felix on loan, the Blues have also signed Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke with Christopher Nkunku also heading their way during the summer. Already fighting for minutes with Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, and Kai Havertz, Pulisic’s path to playing time is murkier by the day in London.

During the World Cup, Pulisic showed that he can still be the focal point of a team that brings Milan interest as they look to rebound after seemingly being out of the Scudetto race this season due to Napoli’s excellent form. Being able to align Pulisic with Rafel Leao could help boost the attack while also reuniting him with plenty of former Chelsea teammates.

Serie A is a league that has trended toward open attacking in recent seasons which also suits what Pulisc has been used to with Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund. Milan will also likely qualify for a Champions League place so Pulisic can stay involved at the highest level of the game. The Italian giants have already added one high-priced attacker in Charles De Ketelaere last season, but as more of a 10. If the Belgian is able to integrate he would be an addition alongside Pulisc instead of blocking his playing time, making this an appealing move.

A new start in Italy could be good for Pulisic to revive his club career, but, unfortunately, he likely won’t be alongside Sergino Dest in Milan as the club isn’t expected to trigger the purchase option for him at the end of the season. They may overlap if Pulisic becomes a January transfer.

Due to his injury, that’s unlikely at this stage but Milan may want to get a deal done before Newcastle or another club comes knocking. The transfer window doesn’t wait for anyone even though Pulisic would cost less in the summer due to only having one year remaining on his contract then. Getting a move to AC Milan would be a good outcome for his future, but if these are the types of clubs Pulisic is in talks about going to, it’s also hard for any move away from Chelsea to be a bad one for him.

La Liga champions Real Madrid will welcome arch-rivals Atletico Madrid to the Santiago Bernabeu on Thursday night with a spot in the final four of the Copa del Rey on offer.

Games between the capital sides have proven to be close-fought affairs with plenty of drama, and more can be expected this time around. Both teams have a combined 29 crowns in the competition and are amongst the more successful sides in the trophy’s history. However, it has now been ten years since a side from the Spanish capital laid claim to the Copa del Rey. Real Madrid won the competition under Carlo Ancelotti in 2013/14, while Atletico Madrid went all the way the previous season in 2012/13.

In fact, neither club have made the final since their respective wins, and there is no better time than now to break that hoodoo. Despite the likelihood of the match being a tense affair, one could argue that Real Madrid have bigger fish to fry.

The Spanish champions are alive and kicking in the title race in La Liga and will face off against Liverpool in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League. The Copa del Rey does not have priority status, unlike Atletico Madrid, whose best shot at silverware this season lies in the competition.

Diego Simeone’s side are enjoying a season to forget, and a successful cup run could be the impetus they need to turn things around. Having experienced defeat in the first Madrid derby this season in La Liga, the Argentine will be keen to set the record straight.
