Malaysia vs Maldives LIVE Football Score 14/12/2022

Malaysia may have been denied a fourth successive Friendly International title last term, but a run of six home wins on the bounce suggests that they may well be the team to beat again this time around. Maldives can only dream of such impressive form on the road, with their previous five games resulting in no points and 15 goals conceded.

Although promotion-chasing Malaysia have been renowned for playing some swashbuckling football this season, four of Malaysia previous five games at this level have actually produced under 2.5 goals. This has also been the case in six consecutive Maldives matches in the Friendly International, so expectations should be lowered ahead of this contest.

One area in which Malaysia have proven incredibly consistent recently is in their involvement in top-flight fixtures in which at least one of the two goalkeepers pitches a shutout, with this happening 15 times in 15 attempts. This has also been the case in seven of the last 12 matches involving Maldives at this level, so more of the same is expected when the teams lock horns.

On Wednesday, Malaysia will host the Maldives at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium in Kuala Lumpur in a friendly match. This will be the final exhibition game for the Tigers of Malaya prior to the start of the upcoming AFF Championship. Kim Pan-team gon’s will start their campaign in Yangon on December 21. They were placed in Group B with Singapore, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Laos. Malaysia is looking to build on its 4-0 friendly victory over Cambodia on Friday, their first since June, when they defeated Bangladesh 4-1 to secure their place in the 2023 Asia Cup.

However, the Maldives continued to wait for their first Asia Cup appearance after failing to advance past the third round by placing third in their group. Their chances of qualifying were ended by losses of 3-0 and 4-0 to Thailand and Uzbekistan in their first two games, but they managed to beat Sri Lanka 1-0 in their final game as a consolation.

Both teams are expected to field strong lineups in the international friendly. The two teams are evenly matched and the contest promises to be an exciting one. For Malaysia, the likes of Khairul Fahmi, Dominic Tan, Quentin Quentin Cheng, Sharul Nazeem Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar, Mukhairi Ajmal, Aliff Izwan Yuslan and a few more important players can be expected to start. On the other hand, for Maldives, Mohamed Umair, Baka, Ali Fasir, Ahmed Niyaz, Hassan Shifaz, Ahmed Imaaz and Ali Haisam are some of the key players who can make a big difference in the attacking department.

Malaysia got back to winning ways as they overcame Cambodia last week. They were 4-0 victors in that contest and are now unbeaten in their last four matches during the 90 minutes. Opponents Maldives have won their last three so they too will be confident, especially as they have conceded just one goal during that run. However, this is a tougher test for them and the home side are fancied to avoid defeat.

Malaysia has registered three victories in the last four attempts and lost only one on penalty shootouts. The Maldives have won the last three outings consecutively as well but the Sea had a long winless momentum in away venues before the previous two visits. In opposition, Tiger of Malaya has won three of the previous games at home. The last meeting between the teams also witnessed Malaysia on the winning side. So we set Malaysia as the favourite to take the lead in this game.

The previous H2H meeting of these teams went over 2.5 goals and the current form of both sides let us predict the same pattern for this game as well. The Maldives were able to record a total of seven goals in the last three outings, scoring 11 in the previous five away outings. On the other hand, Malaysia rattled the net four times in the last game and added a total of ten goals in the last five games. Tiger of Malaya also scored three goals in the previous home meeting against the upcoming rivals.

Maldives come into this game after scoring three goals in each of the last two visits but Malaysia’s defence won’t be an easy task to continue their momentum. Tiger of Malaya has registered three clean sheets in the last five hosting duels, allowing only three goals. The front line of the hosts has also succeeded to hit the target at least twice in three of those attempts. Therefore, we believe to see a 3-1 victory for Malaysia in this game.

The Red Snappers stretched their winning streak to the last game against Laos by confirming a 2-1 victory. The Maldives lost two of the three outings in Asia Cup Qualifiers and stand in the third position on the table. All of the players will be ready to make an appearance in this game before any fitness issues.
